Chats
Family and contact chats, board discussions and files – all in one inbox.
Chats bring family conversation together: 1:1, groups – and the same discussions that start on the board. With people linked via Contacts you can also chat beyond your own family.

Good to know
- Board discussions and regular chats share the inbox – you don’t switch between two places.
- You write within the family and with linked contacts (including other families).
- Group chats have admins: manage participants and storage, delete the chat if needed.
- Chats are Free and unlimited; files need Pro + cloud of the host family.
- Archive and delete are in the list for each chat.
What’s in the inbox
The chats list is your shared inbox:
- Family chats – 1:1 and groups with members of your family
- Board discussions – board posts appear here too (labelled BOARD) and open the matching conversation
- Chats with contacts – linked people (including other families) can be messaged here directly
At the bottom you’ll see a hint to open board discussions in the Board when useful.
Who you can message
Within the family you reach all members – parents, children, partners. People linked via Contacts (e.g. grandparents or friends’ families) also appear in chats once the link is active.
New & settings
Use + New to start a chat. The gear next to the title opens chat settings (participants, storage, admins – depending on the chat).
In the overview you’ll often see the media storage location (e.g. family cloud): files go where the host family connected the cloud.
Files & storage
Chats themselves are unlimited and Free. Files and media need Pro and a connected cloud on the host family. External participants (e.g. grandparents) don’t need their own Pro for that.
Storage limits apply per chat (family default or override in chat settings). Around 80% Famunio warns; admins can adjust the limit. More in the Cloud guide topic.
